I first met Ade over five years ago when I first started my business. Joining one of his photo shoots, I was simply hoping Ade would produce some photos I could start to use in my marketing and on our website - they were so good I'm still using those photos today. When I held a team event recently, there was only one person I wanted to photograph the day and Ade did another brilliant job. Introduction

This case study explores the journey of Pete Colby, founder of the mediation company Pragmatism, and his experience with McFade Photography. From a brand-new business owner to the leader of a thriving team, we’ll look at how professional photography has supported Pete’s business growth and marketing efforts.

The First Encounter: Share the Shoot at Croft Mill

Our relationship with Pete began at one of our Share the Shoot days at the stunning Croft Mill in Halifax. As a new business owner, Pete was looking to kickstart his mediation business, Pragmatism, with some professional images.

The initial photoshoot resulted in a diverse range of images for Pete:

These photos provided Pete with a solid foundation for his marketing efforts as he launched Pragmatism.

The Follow-up: Capturing Pragmatism’s Growth

In 2023, we had the opportunity to work with Pete again, this time at a hotel in the Midlands where Pragmatism was holding a team-building and planning day. This shoot showcased the remarkable growth of Pragmatism from a one-man operation to a thriving team.

The photoshoot was divided into two main parts:

Part 1: Candid Team Moments

Captured the team brainstorming in a meeting room
Used a fly-on-the-wall approach with subtle lighting
Occasionally prompted for smiles to balance concentration with approachability

Part 2: Professional Portraits and Simulations

Individual headshots in the hotel’s public areas
Simulated mediation scenarios:
- One-on-one mediations
- Trio setups with two ‘clients’ and a mediator
Team photographs of all seven members
Shots of handshakes and trainers to showcase the full Pragmatism experience

The photoshoot provided Pete and the Pragmatism team with a wealth of visual content to:
