The Difference

Recording A Space Vs
Showing What It’s Worth

There’s a significant difference between a photograph that records what a building or space looks like and a photograph that shows what it’s worth. The first is taken quickly, in whatever light is available, from the most convenient angle rather than the most revealing one. It documents the fact that the space exists. It doesn’t make it look impressive.

The second requires choosing the right time of day, finding the angle that shows scale and design intent clearly, and solving the technical problems — window contrast, mixed lighting, distorted verticals — before the shoot starts, not apologising for them afterwards.
